So there I was, graduated at 21 finishing up an internship in Melbourne, celebrated my 22nd birthday and was off to work in Canada.
My reasons for heading to Canada weren’t the usual travel/work/party on a mountain reasons you get from most 22 year olds. (I spent a lot of time working in my field as a graphic designer, and wow I am so grateful I got those opportunities).
Like I have always said.. you only regret the chances you didn’t take.
So here I was, spending my first Christmas in Canada. Roger (The reason I went to Canada) was very excited to show me Banff. A place he had grown up going for hikes every summer and visiting in the winter.
We arrived at dusk, and my goodness was I in for an amazing view! It was my first time experiencing the Canadian Rockies, and I’m pretty sure the whole drive to Banff I had my mouth open drooling at the endless view of mountians.
The downside, we were greeted by a chilling -20 degree weekend ahead. I have to say, it was a lot better than the -30 the first week I had arrived.
So what to do during a Christmas in Banff?
1: Visit the Fairmont Banff Hotel and Breakfast at the Fairmont Hotel Banff
The Fairmont Banff Springs is so beautiful, with such a rich history (That you can read all about on the 2nd floor). The hotel makes you feel as if you stepped into the 1800’s, with it’s grand foyer, elaborate furniture and immaculately dressed hotel staff.
Treat yourself to a nights stay and book a session at the Willow Stream Spa. If you’re on a budget, and cannot stay the night, you can treat yourself to the famous weekend breakfast buffet or buffet brunch, at the Fairmonts Bow Valley Grill.
2: Go for a Gondola Ride up Sulphur Mountain
3: Visit lake Louise
6: Relax at the Banff Upper Hot Springs
7: Have a Caesar (A traditional drink in Alberta)
8: Go skiing Choose from Sunshine Village, Lake Louise and Mt. Norquay!
You will not be disappointed!
